What is Color Fastness?

Color fastness refers to a fabric’s ability to retain its color when exposed to environmental factors or specific actions. A fabric with good color fastness won’t easily bleed, fade, or rub off. This is a crucial quality indicator for all textile products, from clothing and home furnishings to industrial fabrics.

Dimensional Stability

The Process: We mark a precise grid on the fabric, wash it according to a specified method (simulating a home laundry machine), and then re-measure the dimensions to calculate the percentage of shrinkage or growth.

Colorfastness to Washing

The Process: A fabric sample is washed with a multi-fiber swatch (containing different fiber types like cotton, wool, and nylon). After the wash, we use a Gray Scale to visually grade both the color change of the original fabric and any staining on the multi-fiber swatch.

Appearance Retention

Pilling: We test the fabric’s resistance to forming small, unwanted balls of fiber (pills) on its surface.

Seam Puckering: We check for undesirable wrinkling or puckering along the seams, which can affect a garment’s fit and look.

Skewing

We measure for fabric twisting, which can cause a T-shirt’s side seams to shift towards the front or back after washing.
